At First Aid Suffolk our nationally recognised EFAW courses are run personally by Liz Russell, our fully qualified, ProTrainings affiliated instructor-assessor. Expect serious content shared in a fun and engaging way – a friendly and positive learning environment which offers a great team-building opportunity and breeds success.

Who is the EFAW course suitable for?

  • All places of work – offices, shops, factories… any businesses, great or small.
  • All companies or businesses employing staff. Employers are required by law to have some sort of First Aid cover on site.
  • Employees who will cover for designated First Aider/s (when off sick or on annual leave).
  • Individuals aged 18 or over, with a reasonable level of fitness and basic command of the English language as a minimum.

What will I learn on the EFAW course?

  • The role of a First Aider, including safety regulations.
  • How to recognise the symptoms of a heart attack and cardiac arrest.
  • Provision of first aid for an unresponsive adult.
  • How to carry out CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on an adult.
  • Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  • Plus, how to provide help to a choking adult, first aid for burns, scalds, bleeds, shock and so much more.

How long does the EFAW course take?

Usually, one day, but it can be spread over two afternoons/mornings if more convenient.

The course requires 6 contact hours.

With breaks, we suggest that you allow for around 7 hours.

 

How is it regulated? Do I get a qualification or certificate?

The EFAW courses delivered by First Aid Suffolk are ProTrainings certified courses.

Course participants are assessed continually throughout the duration of the training and must also pass a multiple choice test at the end of the course.

A certificate will be yours if you complete the course successfully.

This in person, classroom-based course can take place at:

  • venues selected by First Aid Suffolk, local to Felixstowe or Ipswich
  • your own workplace, subject to appropriate room/ facilities

EFAW Course Details

To start, we deal with all the ‘admin’ (paperwork for the course and ID etc.). This is followed by introductions and housekeeping. Students will then learn about and be assessed in the following subjects:

  • HSE health and safety regulations relevant to the workplace.
  • Unconscious casualty.  How to assess and place in the Recovery Position.
  • Non-breathing unconscious casualty. Assess and if necessary, provide CPR. Understand and practice the use of an AED.
  • Provide First Aid for :  Choking
  • Drowning
  • Serious bleeds
  • Shock
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Epilepsy
  • Minor cuts, bruises, splinters.

A multiple choice test will be given at the end of the course.
